Question: What happens when you combine impeccable taste, fake eyelashes and pumping dance beats?

Answer: DC’s newest entertainer, DJ Lady CoCo!

It all started as a joke between friends which led to a random act of drag which has blossomed into what you see today!

Conceived in the summer of 2003, CoCo “Cabana” Blake was thrust into the DC Drag community that following November when she was crowned Miss Brother Help Thyself (BHT) after raising more money than the other entrants in the annual fundraiser.

As part of her official duties, CoCo appeared in the DC Capital Pride Parade the following summer and many completely random sightings throughout the Nation’s Capital in the years since. Most recent of which, Fat Tuesday 2006, she was joined by friends Blair Michaels and Lena Lett hosting a fundraiser benefiting the New Orleans AIDS Task Force.

With the support of many friends, CoCo has overcome many obstacles including bad hair days, non-sensible shoes, pounds of makeup, and fake nails, just to name a few…and has evolved into a glamorous and consummate hostess.

Years ago, when CoCo was still hiding in that god-forsaken closet, she sported an Air Force uniform and enjoyed spinning out tunes for the troops during her off time. After leaving the service, she always kept her finger on the beat while working at many nightclubs in various (and sometimes precarious) positions across the country.

Settling in Washington in 2002, it was only a matter of time until the two paths would cross…and DJ Lady CoCo is spinning out of control!

Born in North Carolina in 1971, Jason was born the youngest of two. The son of a Marine and a stay-at-home mother, he grew up in Florida and eventually moved to Arizona in his early teens.

After graduating high school, Jason followed his brother into the Air Force. Spending just over 6-years in the military, he began deejaying while stationed in Panama.

After leaving the service in late 1996, he kept in tune with the music scenes of the gay nightlife of Washington, DC, Atlanta, Tucson and Phoenix while working at various venues prior to returning to DC in 2002.

In 2003, he took a job as a bartender and manager of a local gay bar, where his interest in deejaying was rekindled. While hosting karaoke, he stunned the audience by showing up in drag, and CoCo was born.

Joining the local record pool in 2006, he has had guest DJ spots and private parties which have slowly reintroduced him to the music scene of the Nation’s Capital.
